I grew up in New England, navigating life through a bicultural perspective as both Punjabi Indian and American. I’m currently in my glide year(s). I’ve always liked writing, but started to really enjoy the writing process after taking a humanities course in high school. The class was co-taught by two teachers, one who encouraged creativity in writing, and the other, concision. In some ways, this class helped me find my written voice. In over eight years since then, I’ve continued to enjoy writing whether it was a creative piece, a research paper, or my neuro thesis. More recently, I’ve been looking for an excuse to continue using this skill. Welcome to my excuse!
This space will feature stories from my life and elsewhere*. My hope is that these written pieces will be adequately average. In our world today, there seems to be an intense pressure to be extraordinary. I just want to share some average--dare I say, mediocre--stories from my world. After all, average must exist for extraordinary to seem extraordinary, right? Maybe not, but stick with me here. While this may seem odd, I was inspired to take on this goal after reading a book set in the late 19th century called Diary of a Nobody by George Grossmith. This book essentially satirizes “the fashion for publishing diaries by anybody and everybody.” Here, in this space, I’m the ‘body.’
In whichever manner you’ve found yourself here, thank you for taking the time to read. I hope some of the material here connects with you.
Lastly, we live in a time where gross fallacies blatantly graze the internet, and where some people just go with it. Given this, I believe it is my responsibility to clarify the following: I’m not a real doctor. Samosas are not alive. Water-dunked samosas would actually be really gross. No one likes a soggy samosa. And if you’ve had to go through that experience before, I’m sorry.
Thanks & stay tuned
* ”Elsewhere” is my loophole term to expand the type of written content that may feature here, including anything that inspires me to think or try something new. Things change. We are always having new experiences and growing from them. As such, I anticipate this space will reflect that with time.
